My name is Radiance, and I am the yogi behind @doyourraindance.
What you need to know about me: I absolutely adore all things yoga and food! On this blog and on my Instagram I write about conscious living, intuitive eating, and mindful movement.
My yoga journey began by accident the summer after high school graduation. I had been a dancer my entire childhood, so when I removed dance from my life, my body was of course still itching for movement. Yoga seemed to be a good fix, and my asana practice began.
I had no idea what was in store. Yoga became so much more than asana (the poses), and every area of my life seemed to simultaneously fall apart and come together on my yoga mat.
On my mat I found self awareness (physically, mentally, and emotionally). I had a place to come to where I always kept growing. I learned healthy ways to cope with stress, emotion, anxiety. I found courage, strength, healing, contentment, and happiness. I found a way out of the toxic fitness world, and I found freedom to move how I want, when I want, and in a way that is good for my body AND mind and soul. This is mindful movement.
My food journey began when I found the Food Psych podcast in the spring of 2017. Then I went on an Eat Breathe Thrive retreat, an organization that uses yoga and meditation to help people with food and body image issues (on all ends of the spectrum, from yo yo dieting to disordered eating to acute eating disorders). Since then I’ve been on a journey to a healthier relationship with food and my body. I’ve realized how many women struggle with this very same thing (current studies estimate 75%), and I’ve decided to speak out against the oppressive diet culture that brought us here. I often talk about the anti-diet approach– giving yourself full permission to eat, whatever you want, whenever you’re hungry. Without anxiety, shame, or guilt. This is intuitive eating.
And conscious living to me means living a life guided by three things: self love, people love & planet love. It means living mindful of the way my thoughts, words, and actions affect myself, my fellow humans, and my mama earth! It also means living with intention– always growing, moving forward, becoming the best version of myself possible.
I started this Instagram and blog in January 2017 in order to grow and share my practice. It evolves as my practice deepens (and along with it my understanding of myself and my place in the world).
Because of yoga, I am a self love enthusiast. I am a mental health advocate. A tree hugging, plant eating environmentalist. A body positive anti-dieter and holistic health & wellness warrior.
So I write about being a yogi, on and off the mat. I share my experiences, my convictions, the way I use yoga to make sense of the world and thrive in the present. I write to be a part of this community of readers and writers– sharing, learning, discussing, and growing together.
Yoga is my biggest tool. Whether it’s for healing, growing, justice or equality– through yoga we find awareness, we understand oneness, we feel unity. We realize that everything we need is already inside of us. The rest just kind of falls into place.
